What happens if my PC won’t start?
A nasty new form of ransomware is wreaking havoc on computers. Hackers that encrypt your files and demand money from you in the form of bitcoin is bad enough, but a few versions also overwrite your Windows PC’s master boot record (MBR). To run a DISM scan, you need to open Command Prompt as an administrator and use the following commands. When you see any error on Windows, you can fix it easily using the System Restore point. Step 2 – Repair Win 10 for Free with Startup Repair Windows 10
After you complete the steps, the tool will repair the damaged files using the files included in the “install.esd” image. If your Windows 10 PC is not working correctly and you can’t get into the sign-in screen, then you may need to use a Windows 10 repair/recovery disk, drive or installation media to reset the PC. If you’re running an older version of Windows, or if your Windows 10 PC isn’t launching the repair options, you’ll need to use a recovery drive to fix your MBR. Start by inserting the system repair media into the PC. This will be either one you created, or a purchased version of the Windows install discs. This process involves Windows ISO, a bootable USB or DVD to repair your Windows.
It also allows you to create a bootable media (USB drive, CD/DVD or hard disk) to restore (Windows 10) OS to previous healthy state. You can use SFC and DISM commands on Command Prompt to repair Windows 11. SFC scan fixes if there are any issues with the system files and DISM Scan fixes if there are any issues with the Windows image file. You can also run Bootrec commands if you are facing issues during boot.
(It may not be able to.) If you don’t actually have a startup problem, it will also say it can’t fix the problem.

For those of you curious, this cleaning of the drive is the same as a hard drive wipe, which is usually done manually before getting rid of a computer, outlined in our How to Wipe a Hard Drive tutorial. Choose Fully clean the drive to removing everything, then wipe the drive clean, and finally reinstall Windows from scratch. Since you’ve chosen to keep your personal files, continuing with this process is restricted to someone that already has access to this computer. Immediately after completing the previous step, your computer may or may not restart, depending on how you got to the ASO menu. Select Local reinstall to have your PC use the system files already on your computer to reinstall the OS. Select Cloud download to have your PC download fresh system files from Microsoft’s servers, and use those files to reinstall the OS.
